"Ipoh—Future City from The Past" is the self-explanatory title of the talk, let’s hear the expertise point-of-view from three professionals.

 

Ipoh – Future City from the Past

As one of the most prosperous cities in the past, the present Ipoh has already become one of the second-tier cities in the country due to the fall of the tin industry.

For the past 30 years, development in Ipoh had been slowed down and the youngsters started to leave the town to seek for better living and working opportunities.

However, from 2010s onwards, Ipoh was pinned on the world map once again, this time as one of the most-traveled cities in the world for its delicious food. On the other side of the coin, the huge influx of tourists has caused Ipoh lots of social problems like congested traffic and city hygiene. People start to concern about the planning and how the future of Ipoh will be as mass tourism is not a sustainable way to develop Ipoh.

The invited speakers will be discussing about how to make Ipoh a better town in the future. Let’s hear the experts’ point-of-view from three professionals:

Teoh Chee Keong earned his Master of Architecture from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan. He has published a variety of articles on newspaper, magazine and journals, dealing with cultural conservation, urban and architecture history.
